Disadvantages of having a Low Body Fat Percentage

It is recommended that they have about six percent to make sure that their body is running optimally. For women, the recommended body fat percentage is 13 – 20 percent. Women need a higher amount of body fat because they bear children. Those reproductive organs simply need more fat to keep their body’s functioning. If one body system is not running right, your whole body will feel it. Now look at some more disadvantages of having a low body fat percentage.

Less energy

If you don’t have a reserve of fat, your body doesn’t have a reserve of energy. It means that your body cannot respond to an emergency situation. It means that you are not going to have that spurt of energy you may need to get yourself out of harm’s way.

More importantly, it means that you are not going to have the amount of energy that your body needs to properly function on a day to day level. You are going to be tired. You are going to suffer from headaches. You are not going to be able to think clearly. You will have impaired judgement.

When you are overweight, your body fat percentage is too high, your heart has too much fat around it. This means that it has to work harder to pump the blood and get it where it needs to be. When your body fat percentage is too low, your heart doesn’t have enough fat around it to adequately pump the blood. Your heart rate is then going to drop down to low and that is going to make you prone to heart disease. To keep your heart function properly, you need a healthy body fat percentage.

Your internal thermostat is just not going to work right.

It is one thing to dream of a low body fat percentage, but the reality is that you need that body fat. It is essential for your body to function the best that it can. Having low body fat percentage is just as dangerous as having a high body fat percentage.
